Scholarships Available for CLS students
Hovde-O'Brien Scholarship
The Hovde-O'Brien Scholarship Program is the oldest in Medical Technology. Awards are based on need, scholarship, and future potential. The scholarships are awarded to junior or senior students (those accepted into the professional program). The announcement of the awards are made in the Summer of each year. The scholarship money represents interest on the principal of the Hovde-O'Brien Fund.
Application Process: Deadline April 1
Complete the FAFSA form anytime after January 1 for the next year. Also, return the form below to notify the CLS office that an application has been submitted. FAFSA forms can be completed on the web (www.fafsa.ed.gov).
Selection Criteria:
- Academic Status
- Cumulative GPA and CLS course GPA.
- Financial Need
- Present tuition rate
- Receipt of other scholarship money
- Student's employment position
- Professional potential
- Selection is conducted by the Student Scholastic Standing Committee - Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

The Gonyea-Stewart, Yvonne C. Cooke, Betty Rae McConnell, Medical Technology Alumni, Constance O. Bakken, and Karen Karni Scholarships are also available to CLS students in the professional program. The application procedure (and form) is the same as for the Hovde-O'Brien Scholarship.
On the average, 20 scholarships are given per year in the range of $500 to $2,000 per scholarship.

Gonyea-Stewart Medical Technology Student Loan Fund
The purpose of this loan is to assist students who experience emergency financial problems (i.e., delays in obtaining loans or other funds). The short term loan for three months is interest free. An application is obtained through the Student Scholastic Standing Committee or the Director.
