Faculty Honors
President's Award @ ARHP
Erica Stern, Associate Professor at University of Minnesota, received the
President's Award at the annual conference of the Association of
Rheumatology Health Professionals (ARHP), held in November in Boston. The
award is given at the discretion of the ARHP President, to an ARHP or
American College of Rheumatololgy (ACR) member or team who performed
outstanding service within that year in advancing the goals, ideals, and
standards of the ARHP. Dr. Stern has a long history of active membership in
the ARHP, including initiating a set of federally funded Responsible Conduct
of Research presentations as part of her work in the ARHP's Committee on
Research. The award was given in recognition for her 2007 work as the ARHP
member on the ACR Ethics and Conflicts of Interest Committee and her
efforts crafting policies for ARHP on expert witness and conflicts of
interest.
Alpha Mu Tau Induction
Dr. Donna Spannaus-Martin was recently inducted into the Alpha Mu Tau Honorary Fraternity in Clinical Laboratory Sciences during the annual ASCLS meeting in San Diego. She is pictured here with Emerita faculty member and former Program Director, Dr. Karen Karni.
Ella Spanjers Honored
Ella Spanjers was honored at the University of Minnesota Medical Technology Alumni Society Spring Banquet as this year's distinguished medical technology alumnus award winner. Ms. Spanjers spent most of her career in the hematopathology field, working closely with Drs. Sundberg, Brunning and Mckepna. She retired in 1996 but she continued to work several days a week reading marrow and blood smears for Dr. Brunning. An extremely talented morphologist, Ms. Spanjers is a well rounded individual with a particularinterest in her work at the University of Minnesota Hospital, University sports and the arts. She is an avid golfer and a great booster of the University of Minnesota, attending Gopher football, basketball and hockey games on a regular basis.
